Skytech Valve Recall
Only 13 individual valves used by Rasmussen are potential targets

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and American Flame, Inc., maker of Skytech safety control valves and remote controls, have announced a voluntary recall of AF-4000 series gas valves.
  • The recall affects valves stamped with manufacturing date codes from 0622 to 0718.
  • Rasmussen only received 32 valves with the 0718 date code.
  • Rasmussen received no valves with any other date code that is the subject of this recall.
  • Of the 32 valves with date code 0718, nineteen were never shipped to customer; 13 were shipped to customers during the summer of 2007.
  • Of the 13 valves shipped, only one has been returned due to the failure listed in the press release as the reason for the recall effort, which is:

"Some of the valves were incorrectly manufactured; allowing gas to continue to flow into the pilot light area after the switch was moved to the "off" position posing a fire or explosion hazard to consumers. When in the off position, these valves can remain partially open allowing a small amount of gas to continue to flow. The pilot flame may remain visible when the gas is flowing, despite the switch being "off"."

  • Incidents/Injuries: American Flame has received one laboratory and one field report of valve failure and continuous gas flow. No injuries or fires have been reported.

  • Rasmussen has received only one return of a valve with date code 0718 that exhibited the above defect.  No injury or fire were reported.
  • Rasmussen uses this valve in only the following models of Electronic Ignition Systems:
    EIS-RL150-N
    EIS-RL150-P
    EIS-RS150-N
    EIS-RS150-P

  • No other Skytech valves are the subject of this recall, nor are they in question.

What to do:

1) If your EIS system shuts down the pilot when the system is turned OFF, then you are not subject to this recall.
2) Identify whether your valve has date code 0718.  The heat shield and inner shield will need to be removed in order to expose the side of the valve with the date code stamp.

3) Skytech has published a test procedure, which you or a service person may accomplish to determine pilot leak-by and suitability for recall replacement of the valve.

4) Contact Rasmussen if you have any questions or concerns.
